FAQ:
Are you insured to carry out the work?
Yes, we are covered by the relevant public liability insurance policies and will provide you with copies of these documents.
Can you guarantee the quality of your work?
Yes, Our work is covered by a 10 year guarantee.
Do I need local authority approval for the work?
Yes, you will require building regulation approval and may need planning permission. We will inform all the relevant organisations and take care of everything required. Our package includes everything needed to comply.
Will the conversion create much mess?
We will do everything we can to reduce the amount of dust and mess. Before any work is started, all the effected areas will be covered with sheets, doors sealed, and floors protected. We will inform you if there are items that need to be removed so they don’t get damaged. If the ceilings in the 1st floor bedrooms are lowered to create the desired head room in the loft, the bedrooms will need to be vacant while that part of the work is carried out.
Can I have a loft conversion?
In most cases the answer is yes. There may be aspects of your existing loft that make it less straightforward such as reduced head height, trusses, chimneys, purlins, awkward staircase position, but all of these can be overcome.
How long will a loft conversion take?
A basic loft conversion will take approximately 8 weeks. The average loft conversion takes approximately 10 weeks. More complicated conversion involving a complete redesign of the roof and outrigger can take longer.
Do I need a dormer?
A dormer will drastically increase the size of the loft and enable a larger area of the loft to be used. It will provide natural light and ventilation. It is sometimes the only option to enable a staircase up to the loft. It isn’t a requirement but is definitely worth considering.
Will I need to inform anyone about the work?
Some aspects of a loft conversion can require notifications. If structural work involving the party wall is being done, then this will require a party wall notice. In every loft conversion the building inspectors will need to be informed. Structural engineers and architects may also need to be brought in. We will take care of all of these requirements
